Location: Wheaton is the county seat of Traverse County, Minnesota. Wheaton is located 85 miles south of Fargo, North Dakota and 60 miles west of Alexandria, Minnesota at the intersection of U.S. Highway 75 and State Highway 27.

Schools
Wheaton Area School is home to Secondary and Elementary Students. It is an excellent school with an average graduating class of about 45 students. The sports are part of the Pheasant Conference. They have various extracurricular activities such as band, choir, one act play, knowledge bowl, school musical, FFA and FCCLA.

Employment Opportunities/Businesses
Wheaton has several employment opportunities within the community. Wheaton's industrial parks include Wheaton Plastics & Stoney Brook Wall Coverings. Wheaton Community Hospital has over 70 employees and is licensed as a 25-bed acute care supporting family practice physicians, physicians' assistants and nurse practitioners. The Traverse Care Center has been remodeled and expanded and employs 60 individuals.

Lakes
Lake Traverse is located 7 miles west of Wheaton on the Minnesota-South Dakota border. Stocked with six million walleye every other year, fish species such as northern pike, bluegill and black crappie are abundant. Lake Traverse and two wild game farms offer an insider's view of exotic wildlife, including ducks and geese, trumpeter swans, pelicans, deer, raccoons and pheasant. Whether you stalk your prey with a camera, rod, or gun, you're sure to enjoy our wide variety of outdoor recreation.

Golf
Wheaton Golf Course is an excellent 9 hole golf course located just 4 miles west of Wheaton. Reasonable rates and forgiving layout makes it a great place for the recreational golfer.

Hunting
Traverse County has excellent deer, duck and goose hunting. It also has seasons for pheasants, and turkey hunting is becoming quite good.

Snowmobiling
Traverse County has various snowmobile clubs that sponsor many miles of trails in and around Traverse County.

Parks & Camp Facilities
Wheaton boasts several parks and camping facilities in and around the city for family recreation. Falk Park on the east side of town holds not only a playground and a picnic shelter but softball fields, basketball courts, and a hockey rink in the winter. Falk Park also provides a roller blade/roller hockey court.
